What Is SOCIAL BOOKMARKING ?

Social bookmarking allows users to store links to Web pages, otherwise known as bookmarks, that they find useful.
Rather than saving these bookmarks on your computer, as was normally done through the “Favorites” button on your Internet browser toolbar, these new social bookmarking sites allow users to save their bookmarks to a Web page.
They allow users to save their favorite articles, blogs, music, reviews, RSS feeds, and more and allow users to access them from any computer on the Web.
To create a collection of social bookmarks, you must register with a social bookmarking site—and there are many from which to choose.
Once you have registered, you will be able to store bookmarks, share them, and categorize them with the use of keywords or tags.
These sites allow users to search for other Internet bookmarks saved by others and add them to their own collection and subscribe to the lists of others.
Social bookmarking has created a new way for Web site visitors to organize and categorize information and resources.
They represent the user’s personal library and when combined with other personal libraries, they allow for many social networking opportunities

You're success lies within you

Many people lose their hope of becoming successful because they think that they won't find it.
But truth is they have every ingredient inside them to become successful.
Success is what lies beneath you , not how you look or what you are.......
Many people lose their hope because they have their personal problems that people like women's , children , black , physical disabled people don't deserve to be successful.

I would like to tell you a story of a poor man , who lived in a village , earned his living by selling helium filled balloons. He daily came to city to sell his balloons for his living.

When he saw that his balloons sale was getting low , he threw one of the balloons in air . Because of helium inside the balloon went up . Seeing this children got attracted towards it and they purchased his balloons. Whenever this thing happened , he just let away one balloon in the sky. One day when he did this thing , a boy came to him and asked , " Is the samething will happen if you threw black balloon in the air ". Seeing the little boy innocence , he gave him the black balloon and told him that ..... It is not the color , structure , physical appearance that is responsible for the fly away of balloon , it is what is inside (helium gas) that makes it fly high.

What was the moral of the story ?.
The moral of the story is , : everything is inside us which will make us rise high . So believe me success and failure all depends what you think , do , apply etc.........

How Does RSS Work ?

What is RSS ?
One of the earliest forms of content syndication is the Dear Abby column.
As most of you know, Dear Abby writes one column and it appears, or is syndicated,
in many different publications.
That was the “old school” way; today we have RSS readers and feeders.
RSS is an acronym for Really Simple Syndication.
RSS is a format for syndicating news and other content that can be
broken down into discrete items.
RSS is really a delivery channel that allows you to send content to subscribers and also to other Web sites.
Once information is in RSS format on a site, an RSS reader can check the feed for updates
and react to the updates in a predefined way.
RSS can deliver many different types of content including text, audio, or video files and can distribute them quickly and easily.

How does RSS work ?

To publish your promotional material and make it available to the masses for their review or publication on their Web site, you first need to create an RSS feed.
To do this you need to develop an XML file structured in the proper format, upload it to your server, and then provide a link to that file on your Web site.
There are many tools online that make this an easy process.
There are RSS software programs that enable the user to quickly and easily create and
publish syndicated content.

Once you have your RSS feed developed, you need to develop your content and update it on a
regular basis; be sure to include a catchy headline and a link to your site in your content.
Usually you will provide a summary letting the subscribers to your feed know about the new content, with a link directly to it.
Alternatively, you could provide the full content in your feed. Your subscribers need an RSS news reader or news aggregator that will enable them to access and display the RSS content.
There are many different RSS readers and news aggregators available for free.
You might want to provide a little education to your visitors as some may be new to RSS, and also provide links to recommended RSS readers from your site to enable new users easy access .
The news aggregator helps viewers keep up with all their favorite resources by checking their RSS feed and displaying the new or recent items from each of them.

There are also Web-based RSS services that work with your browser.
After you run through your initial setup, you subscribe to any RSS service you want to access on a regular basis.
The RSS readers automatically retrieve updates from sites that are subscribed to, providing the user with the latest content as it is published.

Benifits of RSS ...

The benefits of RSS are many:

1. You are guaranteed 100 percent delivery. Spam filters are not an issue. This means that your marketing and other messages to customers and potential customers are getting through.

2. You can quickly and easily get exposure on other sites that have the same target market you do by having your content published on those sites through content syndication. You immediately increase your reach.

3. Through your RSS feed opportunity, you can build your targeted database.

4. You can improve your search engine ranking through providing keyword- rich content that is distributed to other sites with the link back to your site.

5. You will increase targeted traffic to your site.

6. You will increase your brand awareness.

7. Through distribution of great content, you can establish yourself as a great resource.

8. You have a great potential to increase revenue through your use of RSS with the delivery of coupons, specials, and promotions with the links back to your site.

9. You don’t have to worry about compliance with legislation, privacy policies, spam, or age guidelines.

10. You will build trust, your reputation, and credibility.

11. RSS feeds are significantly less work than maintaining and promoting through private mail lists. You don’t have to worry about cleaning lists, running your content through the spam checker, or removing bad e-mail addresses. This does not mean that you should switch everything previously provided through permission-based e-mail to RSS.

12. RSS content is seeing significant click-through rates.

Methodology to Make Your Site Search Engine Friendly

When Internet users are looking for a particular product, service, subject,
or information pertaining to an area of interest to them, how do they do it?
The most common research tool used is the search engine—85 percent of
people doing research online use search engines to find what they are looking
for. Because search engines can bring significant volumes of traffic to your
site, you must understand how the major search engines work and how the
design of your site can influence the indexing of your site by the search engines.
You must also know about the elements that are included in the search
engines’ algorithms, or formulas, that are outside your Web site and what
you can do to ensure that you earn maximum points for those things you can
influence.

When people conduct Internet searches, they rarely go beyond the first
couple pages of results. If you want to be noticed, you need to appear in the
top 10 or 15 search results—ideally, you want to appear on the top half of the
front page of search results. But before you submit to the search engines, you
have to be sure your site has been designed to be search engine friendly.

To make your site search engine friendly, you have to:

• Decide which search engines are critical for your success.

• Learn as much as you can about their ranking criteria and the weighting
given to each criterion in their algorithm. It is also important to know
which databases they are using.

Then you must:

• Determine the keywords that your target market is using in the search
engines to find what you have to offer,

• Assign those keywords to specific pages throughout your site, and then

• Populate the pages with the assigned keywords in the appropriate places
given the ranking criteria for your targeted search engines.

Basic Idea Behind Popularity Ranking

The basic idea of "popularity ranking" (also called prestige ranking) is to find pages that are popular , and to rank them higher than other pages that contain the specified keywords. Since most searches are intended to find information from popular pages, ranking such pages higher is generally good idea. For instance , the term "google" may occur in vast numbers of pages, but the page google.com is the most popular among the pages that contain the term "google". The page google.com should therefore be ranked as the most relevant answer to a query consisting of the term "google".

Traditional measures of relevance of a page such as the TF-IDF based measures, can be combined with the popularity of the page to get an overall measure of the relevance of the page to the query. Pages with the highest overall relevance value are returned as the top answers to a query.

This raises the question of how to define and how to find the popularity of a page. One way would be to find how many times a page is accessed and use the number as a measure of the sites popularity. However, getting such information is impossible without the cooperation of the site, and is infeasible for a Web-search engine to implement.

A very effective alternative is to use hyperlinks to a page as a measure of its popularity. Many people have bookmark files that contain links to sites that they use frequently. Sites that appear in a large number of bookmark files can be inferred to very popular sites. Bookmark files are usually stored privately and not accessible on the web. However, many users do maintain Web pages with links to their favorite Web pages. Many Web sites also have links to other related sites, which can also be infer the popularity of the linked sites. A Web search engine can fetch Web pages(by a process called crawling) and analyze them to find links between the pages.

A first solution to estimating the popularity of a page is to use the number of pages that link to the page as a measure of its popularity. However, this by itself has the drawback that may sites have a large number of useful pages, yet external links often point to the root page of the site. The root page in turn has links to other pages in the site. These other pages would then be wrongly inferred to be not very popular, and would have a low ranking when answering a queries.

What is Search Engine Spamming

Search Engine Spamming refers to the practice of creating Web pages, or sets of Web pages, designed to get a high relevance rank for some queries , even though the sites are not actually popular sites.

For example, a travel site may want to be ranked high for queries with keyword "Travel". It can get high TF-IDF scores by repeating the word "Travel" many times in its page.

( Repeated words in a web page may confuse users; spammers can tackle this problem by delivering different pages to search engines than to other users, for the same URL , or by making the repeated words invisible , for example by formatting the words in small white font on a white background.)

Even a site unrelated to travel, such as a pornographic site, could do the same thing, and would get highly ranked for a query on the word travel. In fact, this sort of spamming of TF-IDF was common in early days of Web Search, and there was a constant battle between such sites and search engines that tried to detect spamming and deny them a high ranking.

Popularity ranking schemes such as PageRank make the job of search engine spamming more difficult , since just repeating words to get a high TF-IDF score was no longer sufficient. However , even these techniques can be spammed , by creating a collection of Web pages that point to each other, increasing their popularity rank.

Techniques such as using sites instead of pages as the unit of ranking( with appropriately normalized jump probablities ) have been proposed to avoid some spamming techniques , but are not fully effective against other spamming techniques. The war between search engine spammers and the search engines continues even today.

The hubs and authorities approach of the HITS algorithm is more susceptible to spamming. A spammer can create a Web page containing links to good authorities on a topic , and gains a high hub score as a result.
